In 2022, the new “maxi” versions with 400 and 530 cc engines, respectively, made their debut. Now, the third generation of this lightest and most agile vehicle has arrived, revolutionising urban mobility and raising the bar for comfort, safety, and enjoyment on the road! The Piaggio MP3 310!
The Piaggio MP3 310 is a small, sporty, and dynamic car that yet has the high standards of comfort and technical features seen in larger GT scooters.
However, the new Piaggio MP3 310 makes these features accessible to all: because of the unique Piaggio three-wheel technology, it can be driven with a valid driver's license. Riding the Piaggio MP3 is an entirely unique experience thanks to its front articulated quadrilateral suspension system and double front wheel, which provide it more cornering stability than any other scooter and excellent road handling that is noticeable on wet asphalt or in low grip situations.
The Piaggio MP3 310 is a highly manoeuvrable vehicle that offers improved agility when travelling. Its small size and handling make parking a breeze. The front end is even more communicative and incredibly precise to ride.
The incredible HPE (High Performance Engine) that powers the Piaggio MP3 310 has been updated from its predessor. The Euro 5+ standard has approved the 310 hpe engine, which has a 310 cc cubic capacity instead of the previous engine's 278 cc. It also has several features that are specifically meant to improve the riding experience, not just in terms of performance but also in terms of ride comfort and rideability, all while using less fuel.
A distinctive look for the whole line motivated by the motor industry
The front has been entirely overhauled, with a new horizontal front light cluster with full LED technology, making it wider and more protective. A smaller, sportier air intake with a three-dimensional honeycomb grille sits in the centre of the shield. Beneath them is a vertical spoiler that was created through meticulous aerodynamic studies; when paired with the brand-new side deflectors, this increases stability and boosts the top speed. The windscreen is likewise redesigned, with a form that ensures optimal protection while minimising mass.
The car also pays homage to several current trends in automotive design, such as the aggressive front end, the body-colored elements on the mudguards (which are different on the Sport version), and the newly designed rims with five split spokes, which are another obvious nod to the world of luxury sport saloons.
Comfort and functionality
The Piaggio MP3 310 has an all new user interface. All of the required information is located at the centre, where a sizable instrument panel with a 5-inch LCD display houses the fuel level and coolant temperature indicators, the trip and total odometers, the digital clock, the air temperature, the digital speedometer, and the ice danger and "service" icons.
The right-hand control block's MODE button allows you to choose among a variety of trip-related information that is displayed on the panel, including the battery range, charge level, average speed, fastest speed, and average consumption. Conversely, the warning lights keep an eye on every function, including the immobiliser, oil pressure, ABS activation, fuel reserve, and "injection check." The controls on the handlebar and dashboard have been moved, making them more useful and effective.
With two levels of seating, a redesigned foam structure for increased comfort, and a shape that ensures the rider has enough lumbar support, the saddle is easy to use and safe to contact the ground. The useful fold-out foot boards, which when closed neatly blend into the fairing, contribute to the comfortable and relaxed passenger posture.
Two demi-jet helmets or a full-face helmet, along with other items, can be readily fit in the roomy under-seat storage. To maintain its open state, the saddle is equipped with a spring. The back plate of the leg shield integrates a subtle and useful concealed bag hook.
Above the instrument panel, meanwhile, is a practical glove compartment with a drawer and USB connection inside, ideal for recharging a smartphone and any other enabled device.
All the advantages of downspeeding with the Piaggio 310 HPE engine
An all-new, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, 4-valve, single-cylinder engine with electronic injection powers the new Piaggio MP3 310. It is the product of the priceless expertise of the Piaggio Group's research and development centre.
The newest member of Piaggio's current HPE, or High Performance Engines, family, the 310 HPE engine, is built on a very particular design philosophy that aims to significantly enhance all aspects of riding, including ride comfort, rideability, noise reduction, and fuel efficiency. Accompanying all of this is a noticeable boost in output.
Significant modifications to the single-cylinder architecture, including the offset of the piston, have been made possible by the thorough refurbishment of the engine, crankcase included. By shifting the piston's working axis relative to the crankshaft, this technique lowers friction between the piston and cylinder during the most important drive phase. This reduces friction overall and has a favourable impact on fuel consumption. These numbers, which move from 31.2 km/l to 32.2 km/l in the WMTC cycle, are lower than with the 300 hpe.
ABS, ASR, and three wheels for maximum safety
The ABS anti-locking braking system combined with ASR traction control (Acceleration Slip Regulation) is featured in both Piaggio MP3 310 variants. The ASR, which Piaggio introduced to scooters initially, is easily detachable and ensures safety by preventing the back wheel from slipping on hazardous situations such as wet asphalt.
Developed in partnership with Continental, the three channel ABS system maximises active safety by eliminating wheel obstruction during braking and granting complete control over the vehicle at all times. The Piaggio MP3 uses an all-disc braking system on all three wheels. The front and rear discs have diameters of 258 mm and 240 mm, respectively.
The Piaggio MP3's success is also a result of its exclusive, patented Piaggio technology, which enables its dual independent, tilting front wheels to be controlled by a special four-bar linkage suspension. This innovation was developed and designed by the top European group ahead of any other manufacturer, ensuring maximum riding enjoyment in total safety.
